Her goal is to take the viewer away, if only for a fleeting moment, from the drudgery of modern life.
You know how you can watch a good movie, and after a while, you realize you are so drawn into the production that you almost forget who you are or what day it is? In Margaret’s world, that cognitive escapism into another, hopefully more pleasant realm of thought is something to aspire to every so often.
Or maybe the art’s just fun to look at sometimes. That’s cool, too.
Having been a K-12 educator, Margaret knows children, too, require release from stressful situations yet often don’t get the opportunity to do so in constructive ways. Viewing good art exposes children to diverse perspectives, enhancing cognitive, social-emotional, and academic development. Research indicates it stimulates critical thinking, fosters empathy, lowers stress,
and improves observational skills.
Consistent arts engagement, including viewing, correlates with stronger academic performance and better interpersonal skills. (https://tinyurl.com/2ycu54tz).
It’s up to you whether this is “good art.” It is certainly not photo realism by any stretch. But again, if it’s visual stimuli that kids (and their folks) will enjoy, Margaret is more than happy to unleash it into the world!

About the artist, Margaret Hayes
Margaret grew up in Oklahoma and Texas, and spent a year in
high school as an exchange student in México. Her parents
owned an art gallery, and Margaret loved nothing more than
to spend time there amongst all the artworks. She loved to
scribble in her mother’s receipt book, and watch admiringly as
her father put together custom frames for the shop’s
clientele.
Now semi-retired, Margaret enjoys spending considerable
time drawing and painting. She also enjoys reading, traveling
and hanging out with her daughter’s sassy pet parakeet, Pico,
also known as Mr Picolettá.
